Running a photography business is oh-so-much more than just taking beautiful pictures, though of course that is the foundation of the business. But there are many, many behind the scenes hours that go into each shoot after the pictures have been taken! And today I want to give an absolutely huge thank you to the people who help me make that happen. Honestly, I couldn’t do Emily Photography without them!!

My amazing, wonderful husband. We are truly a team and he is as invested in my business as I am. He is the technology guru of the operation, and he keeps my blog and website running smoothly, works out computer bugs, makes sure all of the photos are backed up every day, and makes sure my equipment and computer are in good working order. He is my cheerleader, helps me decide on the best pictures for a shoot, encourages me, and stays up late with me when I’m trying to finish someone’s gallery at 1:00 in the morning and can barely keep my eyes open. He also talks me off the ledge when my computer isn’t working right and I freak out

The best babysitter we could ever imagine or ask for. She loves my kids as her own and they love her like a grandma. My kids love going to her one day a week. She does creative hands-on things with them, sends them home with fresh-baked cookies, works out her schedule to watch them extra days when I need to do shoots on a different day or a wedding on a Friday, and listens empathetically when I need to vent or ask parenting questions of her. She’s amazing and I can truly focus on my work knowing my kids are in good hands.

My assistant. She comes faithfully every week to brainstorm new ideas with me, help me stay on top of administrative details like maintaining my database and sending out mailings, and helps me with design work. She’s wonderful, organized, encouraging, thoughtful, and its just so nice knowing I have a right hand person who is truly committed to helping Emily Photography run smoothly and professionally.

My mom. Need I say any more? Seriously she is my biggest supporter and cheerleader and I don’t even have enough space for all the words I could write about how amazing she is and how helpful and encouraging. So I’ll just say thank you!!!!

I LOVE what I do and am so blessed to have such great support in Emily Photography!!

Everyone loves cute baby pictures and surprise! we have TWO winners this year as first place was tied between two of the babies, Sebastian and Jacob Congratulations to you both! Each of them will choose a canvas size 11×14 or 12×12 from the winning picture or future session! And there is one extra bonus—in the past I’ve always drawn one name from the comments for a free mini session; this year the winner will choose one friend or family member who has not previously used Emily Photography for a free mini session with me between January and April 2012! Since there were two first place winners then I put both of their names in a hat and drew out Rachel! So Rachel let me know who you would like to gift a session to and tell them to contact me!

I’ve really enjoyed working with Main Street Magazine, which has a circulation in Hawthorne, Midland Park, and North Haledon. I’ve enjoyed the chance to meet so many interesting people and take their photos for the magazine’s cover! This past month I enjoyed meeting the beautiful soccer star Kaitlyn and learning more about her!

Ethos Fitness Spa

Several months ago I went on a hunt for a great gym–somewhere where I’d feel comfortable, was in a convenient location, and would actually motivate me to work out regularly As soon as I stepped through the doors of Ethos fitness spa, I was hooked by the tranquil atmosphere, staff professionalism, and beautiful gym. And the classes are amazing. I’ve been pushed to all new levels and am so proud of myself for working out regularly! I love to end my last workout of the week with a stop at the Ethos smoothie bar.

The bright sunshine & fresh air today bit me with some spring fever….so Emily Photography is going to offer a spring special to celebrate this super-long winter being over soon!! Trust me when I tell you that I agonized over which pictures to use for the contest. Each picture brought a memory of what I enjoyed about your photo shoot and which shots made me smile. It was nearly impossible to decide and for awhile I thought I might have to do a “top 100″ I started by picking my favorite picture from every single session and then began the process of narrowing to the ones that spoke to me in some way and that I felt best represented as a whole my work, my style, and my passion for taking your pictures. If you don’t see your picture here, its not because I didn’t also love it! As with any art, it is open to interpretation and its fun for me to know that there are other pictures that you may like even more than the ones you see here. It was truly truly a difficult decision as I had so many favorites!! To see last year’s contest, click here!

As we look forward to 2011 I just want to thank you all again. I truly love working with you and am honored to record both the big and the little moments in your lives! I’m looking forward to the year ahead!

2010! | new jersey newborn, child, family, wedding photographer

I found myself feeling emotional and teary-eyed as I spent some time looking through every session I’ve done in 2010, from newborns to growing kids to families having fun together to weddings!

I’ve done 130 photo sessions this past year and 5 weddings It has been my incredible honor and joy to share pieces of so many of your lives, meet all of your amazing families, and record precious moments for you. I love working with all of you. And I can’t wait to share 2011 with you!

Stay tuned for my 2010 blog contest the first week of January where I’ll pick my favorite 12 pictures (not sure how I’m going to be able to pick!!!!!!) and you can vote on your favorite picture! The winner will win something amazing as will one random commenter.
