Running a photography business is oh-so-much more than just taking beautiful pictures, though of course that is the foundation of the business. But there are many, many behind the scenes hours that go into each shoot after the pictures have been taken! And today I want to give an absolutely huge thank you to the people who help me make that happen. Honestly, I couldn’t do Emily Photography without them!!

My amazing, wonderful husband. We are truly a team and he is as invested in my business as I am. He is the technology guru of the operation, and he keeps my blog and website running smoothly, works out computer bugs, makes sure all of the photos are backed up every day, and makes sure my equipment and computer are in good working order. He is my cheerleader, helps me decide on the best pictures for a shoot, encourages me, and stays up late with me when I’m trying to finish someone’s gallery at 1:00 in the morning and can barely keep my eyes open. He also talks me off the ledge when my computer isn’t working right and I freak out

The best babysitter we could ever imagine or ask for. She loves my kids as her own and they love her like a grandma. My kids love going to her one day a week. She does creative hands-on things with them, sends them home with fresh-baked cookies, works out her schedule to watch them extra days when I need to do shoots on a different day or a wedding on a Friday, and listens empathetically when I need to vent or ask parenting questions of her. She’s amazing and I can truly focus on my work knowing my kids are in good hands.

My assistant. She comes faithfully every week to brainstorm new ideas with me, help me stay on top of administrative details like maintaining my database and sending out mailings, and helps me with design work. She’s wonderful, organized, encouraging, thoughtful, and its just so nice knowing I have a right hand person who is truly committed to helping Emily Photography run smoothly and professionally.

My mom. Need I say any more? Seriously she is my biggest supporter and cheerleader and I don’t even have enough space for all the words I could write about how amazing she is and how helpful and encouraging. So I’ll just say thank you!!!!

I LOVE what I do and am so blessed to have such great support in Emily Photography!!

Everyone loves cute baby pictures and surprise! we have TWO winners this year as first place was tied between two of the babies, Sebastian and Jacob Congratulations to you both! Each of them will choose a canvas size 11×14 or 12×12 from the winning picture or future session! And there is one extra bonus—in the past I’ve always drawn one name from the comments for a free mini session; this year the winner will choose one friend or family member who has not previously used Emily Photography for a free mini session with me between January and April 2012! Best of 2011 | nj natural light photographer

In reflecting over my 2011 sessions, I decided my favorite part of my work was my relationships with my clients! I love meeting new families who choose to put themselves in front of my lens and share their lives with me, as well as connecting with my families who come back year after year. It is a joy, and an honor, and I love creating amazing images for my clients that are personal because I know them, either from lots of emails back and forth before meeting or reconnecting about life and kids and milestones that have happened since I saw them last. It is an incredible privilege to get to know so many amazing people and capture this moment of time in their lives: their love for each other, their excitement over new life, their emotion. And now I am privileged to share a few of my favorite images from this past year, images that I feel represent what a session with me will look like: creative, personal, emotional, artistic, and fun! I am so blessed by being able to have a job that I truly love, and I am so blessed by all of you wonderful clients. I’m looking forward to 2012!!! Merry Christmas everyone!

This was my 4th year working with this delightful family and I love connecting with them each year and watching their beautiful children grow up! Mom has a love for black and whites (a woman after my heart!)…..She has deep red walls and hangs fun black and white candids from our shoots on her walls. Love!

This adorable little week old newborn did not want to miss anything going on around him! He was perfectly content and I loved his big bright eyes. He joins a gorgeous family of adoring siblings! I enjoyed spending time with them at their home for his newborn session!

I love his brother and sisters’ portraits so I’m sharing them here too….see what I mean about gorgeous??
